What is the best place to put a radar detector at??
I have a Escort Passport 8500 X50 i put it in the middle of my windshield but people say its better to put it at the top of the window what to you guys think??
that wasnt what i asked and yes my x50 picks those up and yes they still use radars
The best place to put your Escort Passport 8500 X50 radar detector is in a radar detector visor holder. This keeps your radar detector at the highest point inside your car while also hiding it from outsiders. There are even ways to connect your Escort Passport 8500 X50 to your electric system using a wire that passes around your windshield, out of sight.
The previous poster's comments about laser aren't entirely correct. First, they DO NOT have to target your license plate with laser to read your speed. (Remember, only SOME states require license plates on the front of the vehicle.) The laser is light, so it can be used to target anything that reflects light (in other words: just about anywhere on your vehicle.) Besides, if they only target your license plate, what good is a laser detector in your windshield?? Second: It only takes .2 seconds (2 tenths of a second) for laser to read your speed. So when your radar detector alerts to laser, you have .2 seconds to check your speed and adjust if needed. That is obviously not enough time; if your radar detector alerts to laser and you are speeding, you might as well pull over and wait for the ticket.
The ONLY worthwhile protection against police laser is a laser jammer, also LEGAL in nearly every state. A laser jammer jams the speed reading on the laser gun while alerting you to the danger. Adjust your speed, if necessary, then turn off the jammer to allow the laser gun to read your speed.
If you are serious about being as stealthy as you can be, your best alternative is probably a combined radar detector/laser jammer system like the Escort Passport 9500ci, which includes both a radar detector and a laser jammer in one integrated system. Good luck!

I have mine at the top of the windshield. Just under the factory tinted part, seems to work pretty good. Only bad thing is they get so hot up there.
Cops still use ka all the time. Mine picks up laser as well. Good thing about laser is they have to point it right at the license plate. and they cant have much angle. So I got as much a chance as seeing them as they have of seeing me.
