At the time of recording the video I didn’t own a V1. I did try one after, and was very impressed except for off-axis 35.5GHz Ka detection. The X50 and the RX65 both absolutely schooled it in that area. Otherwise, the V1 is very capable and perhaps just slightly more sensitive on all remaining frequencies than the RX65, including K-Band. While I had it, I did try it both below the mirror as well as at the top and didn’t notice any appreciable difference.
Someone whose job depends on being able to write tickets would have the public believe that radar detectors don’t work – I’m shocked. Well guess what, I’ve been using high-end radar detectors for over 5 years and, by doing so, saved myself more tickets than I can count. Have I still gotten a couple despite using them – you bet. Nobody ever said that they were 100% protection, but they’ll certainly help the motorist more often than not in my experience.
These things never stop amazing me. If the general public would just do a little reading or talk to a cop with radar certification and training or even just played with a radar speed device, they would see that it is a waste of money. Just do the speed limit. We dont leave our radars on all the time. If you detector goes off, you’re getting a ticket or you just found out someone else is. And K band is the dinosaur of radar.
The tester that I used is MUCH, MUCH weaker than a real radar gun. Warning times with a real radar gun would likely be more than 10 times than in the test. The relative differences should remain proportionally similar. I’ve received K-Band warnings on the RX-65 in the test of over 2.5 miles against real guns.
I do own a V1 now, and based on what I have seen with the K-Band detection on it, i’d say it’s about even with the older RX65s like the one in the test. The X50 is a 6.1 revision based on the “M4″ platform, which does have weaker K-Band performance than the older ones.
The only surprising result to me is the X50. At our GOL tests the X50 does good on K band. The V1 would have given you about a 30 second warning if I had to guess
The reason I showed the runs was to eliminate any arguments that I had no proof of findings. Anyone can type out numbers, and as such anyone can contest those numbers. I have video evidence.
The video is pretty dull. There’s no reason to show every second of every test. Just show the setup, then give a table with results. Plus, I would have measured the distance from the detection point to the radar source instead of time. Interesting idea for a test.
You are assuming that the RX65 was tested first. It seems obvious that the videos were presented in the order of detection performance from best to worst.
was the rx65 tested again later with similar results? Your K source could have been less effecient when warmed up, disturbing the results for the later-tested units… results would be most accurate using 3 or more passes, averaged.

what do u recommend? for racing and not getting spotted? best police detector?

As stated in the video, all runs were at 30MPH

next time try the V1 mount high on the windshield just below the tint and see what happens?

how fast were u driving?

so how much weaker exaclty was the kband u used. would the times increase if it was a real radar gun??

I’m looking for a new radar detector. Preferably a escort 8500×50 or V1. which do you prefer? and is the escort x50 revision 6.1 any better? thanks

this was awesome. thank you. recieved a ticket last week.. am now investing in a radar detector.

Correct, results were arranged from longest detection to shortest.

I did several runs with the RX65 at different points in the testing and got the exact same times with each run. Same with the X50.
